Maybe it’s the sound of kids laughing during the parade, neighbors gathering for pancakes before the festivities begin, or the way Main Street fills with flags, music, food, and small-town pride. If you’re looking for a classic Minnesota Independence Day experience, Tower-Soudan delivers it beautifully.
This year’s Tower-Soudan Fourth of July celebration on Saturday, July 4, 2026 promises a full day of family-friendly fun, community spirit, and Northwoods charm — all just minutes from Vermilion Park Inn.
Start the Day with Pancakes & a Scenic Run
The festivities begin bright and early with the annual Pancake Breakfast at the Lamppa Civic Center in Tower from 8:00–10:30 a.m., hosted by the Tower-Soudan Civic Club.
Also kicking off the morning is the 43rd Vermilion Walk & Run beginning on Main Street near the Lake Vermilion Cultural Center. Events include a 10K Run, 5K Run/Walk, and Kids Fun Run.
Whether you’re participating or simply cheering from the sidelines with a cup of coffee in hand, it’s a wonderful way to start the holiday.
A Classic Small-Town Parade
The Tower-Soudan parade is one of the highlights of the holiday weekend.
Beginning with the Kiddie Parade at 10:45 a.m. followed by the main parade at 11:00 a.m., visitors can expect decorated floats, patriotic spirit, local businesses, music, candy, and plenty of community pride.
Children participating in the Kiddie Parade even receive patriotic gifts and a special keepsake to remember the day.
This year’s celebration also honors America’s 250th Anniversary, adding an extra sense of celebration and nostalgia to the festivities.
Food, Vendors & Main Street Fun
Throughout the day, Main Street in Tower comes alive with food vendors, local merchants, specialty booths, and live entertainment.
Local favorites including the Vermilion Club, Tower Café, Tavern in the Bay, Benchwarmer Grille, Sulu’s Espresso Café, and more will be serving food and refreshments throughout the celebration.
Visitors can browse vendor booths, enjoy music and karaoke, and simply soak in the relaxed atmosphere that makes small-town Minnesota summers unforgettable.
Family Activities Continue All Afternoon
The fun continues after the parade with the traditional Sawdust Scramble and Children’s Races beginning at 12:30 p.m. at the football field and school grounds.
From sack races to wheelbarrow races and dashes for all ages, these old-fashioned activities are part of what makes the Tower-Soudan Fourth feel so authentic and memorable.
Then on Sunday, July 5, the celebration wraps up with a free Community Picnic at the Breitung Recreation Area in Soudan from 12–3 p.m., featuring hot dogs, popcorn, root beer floats, games, and activities for all ages.
